Welcome!! There is another sale this week for Wisdom of the Earth Essential Oils entitled Under the African Skies. One of the aspects of pure, natural essential oils is that they convey to us the energy of the area in which they are grown. So, the chemistry of the plants of the same variety, and therefore the oils produced from them, can vary somewhat by country of origin, due to climate and soil nutrient conditions. At Wisdom of the Earth, we believe an essential oil is also embued with the energy of the environment in which the plants are raised and the processes by which they are tended, harvested and the oil distilled or extracted. That is why we feel it is so important that the farmers believe in and honor what they do, and don’t just see it as a job, but a calling. This month’s carefully selected oils and hydrolat are all from the continent of Africa…the ancient mystery and exotic beauty of this land and its people are a part of the make-up of each one. Some, like Frankincense (Somalia), really need no introduction, but others, like Cumin Seed and Argan Oil, may be unfamiliar to you. This is your chance to stock up on familiar favorites or explore others that may be just perfect for a particular condition or situation. Have fun exploring these ten beauties! The following information will tell you how to participate in this special 40% off opportunity. Please read these instructions, even if you have participated before, as some ordering aspects may have changed. 1. The 40% off promotional offer on these select items runs through Friday, May 23rd, and ending Sunday, May 25th at 8pm. 5. Under the African Skies! Here are the products we are offering in this promotion: Cedarwood, Atlas; Cumin Seed; Fennel, Sweet; Frankincense, Olibanum (Somalia); Helichrysum Italicum (Morocco); Mugwort; Myrrh; Niaouli; Argan Oil; and Neroli Hydrolat. Here is a brief overview of the medicinal, cultural and spiritual aspects of these beautiful offerings from Africa. Cedarwood, Atlas (Morocco) (Cedrus atlantica) Please note that this is a true cedarwood, as is Himalayan Cedarwood. Some Junipers are very similar in appearance to Cedarwoods, so their regional or common name may reflect that (e.g., Virginia and Texas Cedarwoods...which botanically are Junipers). Atlas Cedarwood is known for its ability to reduce stress, improve circulation, boost immunity, relieve pain, increase libido, and fight infections. Additionally, it has been used to promote restful sleep and ease respiratory conditions such as bronchitis and asthma. We have had good success massaging it into the scalp, layering it with Spike Lavender, to increase hair growth, and some studies suggest it may help in cases of alopecia areata when used with other essential oils like rosemary or thyme (best to use a gentle one like White Thyme (thyme linalool). If the skin is sensitive, a nut or seed oil like Foraha (also known as Tamanu oil) or Argan oil, both of which are good for scalp and hair health, can be applied first. Atlas Cedarwood is a fantastic support for the adrenals, serving as an energy booster, and helping to combat fatigue and restore vitality. Its invigorating properties make it a great choice for mental clarity, focus, and motivation, especially when feeling sluggish or drained. Some sources suggest that its ability to stimulate circulation and oxygenate the brain contributes to this energizing effect. Historically, it is believed that Atlas Cedarwood was one of the first essential oils ever distilled, with records showing its use in incense, medicine and cosmetics. The tree itself is thought to be related to the legendary Cedar of Lebanon, which was widely referenced in the Bible as a symbol of abundance and fertility. The ancient Egyptians used cedarwood oil in skin care, and the scent of the wood, itself, was believed to elevate spiritual consciousness. Protection, purification and the attraction of abundance is associated with cedarwood, and anointing oneself with the oil helps to settle the mind and heart for meditation. Finally, this beautiful oil, applied over the heart, fosters a sense of security and relieves worry and overthinking...so important in these tumultuous times. Retail price: 15 ml $29; 120 ml $203 Sale Price: 15ml $18; 120ml $122 Cumin Seed (Egypt) (Cuminum cyminum) This oil is a candidate for the "unsung heroes" category of essential oils! Like many oils made from plants or plant parts familiar as culinary spices , Cumin Seed essential oil has potent medicinal properties that have been valued for centuries, especially for digestive support, gut-soothing qualities, and relief from bloating. Some studies point to Cumin Seed's antibacterial and antifungal properties, as well as its assistance in regulating cholesterol and balancing blood sugar. Cumin's pungent aroma is attributed to the fact that it is rich in the aromatic compound cuminaldehyde, which has the effect on the body of preventing the formation of gas, or facilitating its release. As a seed oil, Cumin tends to be warming and grounding, and soothes nervous stomachs and gently stimulates sluggish digestion. Historically, Cumin Seed has an ancient and storied past. It was cultivated in the Middle East and Mediterranean regions thousands of years ago, and became a staple in Egyptian, Indian and Persian medicine. It can be layered with Atlas Cedarwood (mentioned above) for respiratory support, emotional stability and centering or meditative practices. Don't let the earthy, spicy aroma put you off...when layered with other oils, that aspect can be softened. It is a potent ally for digestive and respiratory issues, and using it on the soles of the feet before bedtime provides a deep restfulness that carries over into morning energy that lasts throughout the day. Retail Price: 15ml $38; 120ml $266 Sale Price: 15ml $23; 120ml $160 Fennel, Sweet (Egypt) (Foeniculum vulgare) Sweet Fennel essential oil is widely recognized for its digestive support, helping to relieve bloating, gas and indigestion. This makes it a great layering partner with Cumin Seed EO. It also has anti-spasmodic properties, which makes this oil useful for easing muscle cramps, menstrual cramps and tight muscles. Some studies indicate that it helps to balance blood sugar in the body. Sweet Fennel also has shown anti-fungal and antibacterial properties, making it a well-rounded essential oil to have in one's personal apothecary. Spiritually and emotionally, Sweet Fennel enhances one's intuition and clears the mind of extraneous thoughts or over-thinking. For this purpose, you can apply it to the Crown Chakra or Third Eye to support your meditation or mindfulness practice. For anyone who gets caught up in the constant stream of information or activity on your phone or computer, Sweet Fennel aids in stepping away from overuse and turning to human interaction, nature-based activity, etc. Finally, when applied with intention to the solar plexus chakra, which governs personal power and confidence, this essential oil gives these aspects a boost and helps overcome feelings of inadequacy or fear of failure. Since ancient times, the Egyptian, Greek and Chinese cultures have given Sweet Fennel a prominent place in their health and medicinal practices. Hippocrates used Fennel to treat infant colic, while Pliny the Elder documented its use in over 22 remedies. Maybe it is time to discover or rediscover Sweet Fennel! Retail Price: 15ml $30; 120ml $210 Sale Price: 15ml $18; 120ml $126 Frankincense Olibanum (Somalia) Organic (Boswellia carterii) Derived from the resin of Boswellia trees, Frankincense is an ancient medical marvel. It is renowned for its anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and immune-boosting properties. The oil contains boswellic acids, which have been studied widely for their ability to reduce inflammation, making Frankincense beneficial for conditions like arthritis and respiratory issues. Recent research has explored the anti-cancer properties of Frankincense oil, particularly its effects on breast and lung cancer cells. It also is an excellent choice for supporting all aspects of memory...learning, retention, recall, and recognition. I personally had great results some years ago for improving recall by applying 7-10 drops at the base of my skull or on my crown chakra before going to bed. You can also use Frankincense in the diffuser overnight for the same purpose. With regard to immune support, I use two oils daily and faithfully, stepping up frequency if I am feeling tired or like I am "coming down with something." Black Cumin is my tonic for overall health and wellbeing, and Frankincense for mental acuity and general health. These two are the "dynamic duo" for prevention and health maintenance. Frankincense has played a starring role in spiritual and medical traditions across civilizations. Its trade was once so lucrative that it shaped economies and caravan routes, earning it the title of "gift of the Gods". Famously, in Christianity it was one of the gifts presented to the baby Jesus by the Wise Men. In the Middle East, it was often used in religious ceremonies, purification rituals, birth and transition rituals and as an offering to deities. Across cultures, Frankincense has been used to purify spaces, enhance meditation and promote spiritual awareness. What important life event would you celebrate with Frankincense? Retail price: 5 ml $26; 15ml $68; 120ml $476 Sale Price: 5ml $16; 15ml $41: 120ml $286 Helichrysum (Morocco) Also known as "Immortelle", Helichrysum is one of the Queens of medicinal aromatherapy due to its powerful wound cleansing and healing, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. This special oil helps with scar reduction (external and, as we sometimes forget, internal scarring) and soothes skin irritation. This oil is a key ingredient in many "high-end" natural anti-aging cream and serum formulations, as it helps prevent and reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles. Another way Helichrysum benefits the skin, and the body overall, is the promotion of circulation...improving blood flow to all parts of the body. Because research has attributed this benefit to the reduction of inflammation as well as potential blood-thinning properties, it is best not used, out of an abundance of caution, if you are on pharmaceutical blood thinning medication. Helichrysum essential oil offers liver support, Central Nervous System (CNS) support, and aids in balancing cholesterol. In addition, many have found her effective for addressing concussions and imbalance. On an emotional and spiritual level, Helichrysum can also ease the wounds you cannot see...but which can deeply affect one, nonetheless. So Helichrysum can aid in releasing trauma and supporting emotional recovery and inner strength. Helichrysum is filled with light...her golden blossoms have been likened to "little suns", and thus represents light, hope and perseverance. In ancient times, Helichrysum was associated with the Sun God...Apollo...and was believed to ward off negative energies and bad luck. Applying Helichrysum over the heart before meditating or making a daily affirmation helps to strengthen one's focus on and intention toward that purpose. Retail Price: 5 ml $80; 15ml $208 Sale Price: 5ml $48: 15ml $124 Mugwort (Morocco) Wild (Artemisia herba alba) Also known as "White Armoise", Mugwort is another essential oil in this promotion that is excellent for digestive health and issues such as bloating, indigestion and gas. Mugwort is also anti-parasitic and anti-fungal. It is one of the key anti-parasitic oils that is not hot on the skin (like the Thymes and Mountain Savory), so can be applied directly on the abdomen. As an anti-spasmodic, Mugwort helps relieve muscle spasms (including restless leg syndrome), and its anti-inflammatory properties helps to ease inflammation of the colon and intestines. Historically, it has been used to regulate menstrual cycles and relieve menstrual pain. Mugwort is a staple in spiritual clearing practices. Emotionally, Mugwort moves “stuck” energy in the body. Regular and intentional use helps one release old patterns and old beliefs that no longer serve to make way for true life changes. If you are one who has had difficulty sticking with an improvement plan or changing unhealthy habits, this essence may be an especially important one for you. Spiritually, some Native American tribes used Mugwort in smudging rituals to cleanse spaces and dispel negative energy. The Chumash people of California used it for women's health and other tribes used it for respiratory relief and wound healing. In rituals honoring the Crone archetype, Mugwort is used to represent feminine wisdom and the heavenly cycles, especially lunar energy. Finally, this oil can be used to deepen spiritual connection to the unseen world and our own inner wisdom. Retail Price: 15ml $47; 120ml $329 Sale Price: 15ml $29; 120ml $198 Myrrh (Somalia) (Commipora myrrha) Myrrh has been revered for thousands of years, woven into the fabric of ancient civilizations for its medicinal, spiritual and aromatic properties. Highly anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial, Myrrh is renowned for treating wounds, cracked skin and infections. It is incredibly effective for oral health...addressing gum disease, trauma to the mouth, and halitosis. It is often included as a key ingredient in natural toothpastes and mouthwashes. I recently had a little ulcer under my tongue. It was painful, sensitive, and getting worse by the day. I applied a couple of drops of Myrrh on my fingertip, rubbed it over the ulcerated area, and the pain was gone in about an hour. The entire ulcer was gone in 24 hours, and didn't come back. Several recent studies showed Myrrh's potential in retarding tumor growth in breast cancers. While its mechanism of action differs from that of Frankincense, and the two oils differ in their chemical composition, both demonstrate anti-cancer properties. Culturally, Myrrh was a key ingredient in Egyptian embalming practices, and it was believed that this precious substance preserved the body and guided the soul in the afterlife. The Greeks and Romans used Myrrh for centuries in remedies that addressed antiseptic and wound-healing properties. Traditional Chinese Medicine makes extensive use of Myrrh to support circulation, relieve pain and promote emotional balance. Spiritually, Myrrh, when used with intention (that is, you directly ask for her help), literally helps to slow the pace of time. I use it this way sparingly, and only when greatly needed; I can attest to the fact that I have been able to accomplish an amazing amount in literally minutes when I have called in that support. I would look up and honestly be in disbelief that so little time had passed compared to what I had accomplished. So, if deadlines aren't your friend, this oil may be a life saver for you! Myrrh also is very grounding, so if you mind is going in a million directions when you attempt to meditate or pray, a little Myrrh over your heart and on your Third Eye will help you to focus. Retail Price: 5 ml $25; 15ml $63 Sale Price: 5ml $15; 15ml $38 Niaouli (MQV) (Madagascar) (Melaleuca quinquenervia) Niaouli is best known for its antiseptic antibacterial and anti-viral properties. This essential oil is excellent to use in inhalations (either diffuser or steam inhalation) as it helps clear congestion, eases coughs and soothes sinus discomfort. With seasonal allergies upon us, some of these properties may offer great support to those affected. Niaouli is a natural disinfectant for cuts, burns and skin irritations; it is also used for fever relief. Niaouli's anti-inflammatory properties calm redness, acne, and sensitive skin conditions. It is also a natural skin toner, tightening the pores and refreshing the skin. Niaouli is a relative of Tea Tree and Cajeput, and they share many of the same properties, but Niaouli is a great one to have on a trip or camping outing....it seems like there is nothing Niaouli can't improve in a health situation! I call her the "workhorse" of essential oils. Digestion, headaches, bursitis, muscle pain and strain, she works to your benefit, whether used alone or with oils like Basil, Birch and Lavender. Retail Price: 15ml $29; 120ml $203 Sale Price: 15ml $18; 120ml $122 Argan oil is one of the most cherished botanicals in the world. Known for its enriching properties, Argan oil, due to its high levels of essential fatty acids, anti-oxidants and vitamin E, is valued for its potential to hydrate, rejuvenate, and repair cellular damage, thus provide anti-aging benefits to mature skin. This oil also enhances the shine and strength of one's hair, and can be applied directly on the nails and cuticles to moisturize, strengthen and protect against brittleness and breakage. Argan also has high Omega 6 and linoleic acid content, which helps reduce inflammation, heal acne, minimize scars and stretch marks, and promote tissue regeneration. It also facilitates wound healing, supports heart health, and helps arteries remain supple and fully functioning. As if those properties weren't enough, Argan can also help balance blood pressure, improve blood circulation and regulate cholesterol. Finally, Argan contains carotenoids, which protect the skin from ultraviolet rays. This beautiful oil is harvested and processed exclusively by Berber women in Morocco. Retail Price: 15 ml $18; 120 ml $126; 500 ml $428 Sale Price: 15ml $1; 120ml $76 Neroli Hydrolat (Morocco) (Organic) (Citrus aurantium) Ah, Neroli Hydrolat—a fragrant treasure produced via the steam distillation of Neroli essential oil from the blossoms of the Bitter Orange tree. The name "Neroli" is said to come from Princess Anne Marie Orsini of Nerola, Italy, who adored the scent and used it to perfume her gloves and stationery. Hydrolats are created when the essential oil rises to the top of the water from the distillation and is siphoned off. In this case, the remaining water has quite a bit of the Neroli oil in it, resulting in a naturally perfumed water that is a powerhouse for both skin and emotional well-being. Neroli Hydrolat is known for its ability to balance the skin’s natural oils, making it ideal for oily and combination skin. It also helps improve elasticity and promote a youthful glow. A gentle facial mist for daily use, it tightens pores, and hydrates and refreshes the skin. Neroli Hydrolat can also be sprayed on the hair while it is still wet from the shower, leaving it soft and sweet-smelling. A quick spritz on the face and neck brings an immediate uplift in mood, while calming any stress or worry. My friend calls it her "mini spa experience in a bottle", lol. It is also purifying, and is perfect to spray in a massage room between clients or an office space between meetings, clearing any remaining energy and creating a harmonious, fresh atmosphere. How would you use Neroli Hydrolat? Retail Price: 120ml $33; 500 ml $130 Sale Price: 120ml $20; 500ml $78 |
